Shirley Essenboom

SHIRLEY ESSENBOOM
 
 
Dancer and freelance teacher Shirley Essenboom has been (guest)teaching classical ballet at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag since 2005 and has been performing wit the Nederlands Dans Theater for 14 years.
 
Born in March 1975 (and raised) in Den Haag, Shirley completed her dance training at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag. At age 23 she received the ‘Encouragement Award’ by Stichting Dansersfonds ‘79.
 
She started her dance career with the Nederlands Dans Theater II, than moved on to the main company Nederlands Dans Theater I. She worked with choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Ohad Naharin, Paul Lightfood, Sol Leon and William Forsythe. After a one season break to dance with Les Ballets de Monte Carlo in 2003 she rejoined the Nederlands Dans Theater where she is still dancing today.

Sara Erens

SARA ERENS
 
Sara Erens studied at Codarts/Rotterdamse Dansacademy and with a sholarship (by the Fonds van de Podium Kunsten) in New York. She danced with Ballet Innsbruck (Oostenrijk), Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Dance Company Krisztina de Chatel and Pieter de Ruiter’s Dancity. For the past seven years she has been dancing with Dance Works Rotterdam.

At present she enjoys sharing her knowledge of dance - and in particularly her experience with company repertory of Dance Works. She has been teaching repertoire at Codarts/Rotterdam Dance Academy and in St. Petersburg, Russia - during a tour with Dance Works Rotterdam in a combination of performance by the company and an educational program for Russian dance students and professional dancers.
 
The repertory by Dance Works Rotterdam and especially the works by artistic director Ton Simons are an important addition to the dance repertoire of the Netherlands. Simons received several awards including the Merit Award 2004, in great appreciation of his qualities as a director and as a choreographer.
 
In the Summer of 2008 Sara Erens will be teaching several parts of Dance Works repertory at Summerschool Den Haag. She will bring students who love to dance, in touch with the professional scene and give them an enjoyable taste of contemporary dance in the Netherlands.



Mirella Simoncini

MIRELLA SIMONCINI
 
Mirella Simoncini is responsible for initiating the first (inter)national Summerschool in the city of the Hague; Summerschool Den Haag. She received her education at the Royal Balletschool of Antwerp and the Nederlands Dans Theater. An injury made her stop dancing, she developed a new interest in journalism and worked for the Dutch National radio and television companies. She found her way back to ballet as she was making radio documentaries about choreographers.
 
Simoncini has been teaching classical repertory for several years working with students attending the Dutch professional dance institutions and young dancers. She is dedicated to teaching classical ballet and in charge of the private school 'Balletschool Mabel Alter' as well as artistic director for Summerschool Den Haag.
She is commited to the Student by Invitation programme, including the Inspiration Project. And produced several versions of the Project with students from the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag, Nationale Ballet Academie Amsterdam and Codarts Rotterdamse Dance Academy.  As a freelance teacher she can also be found at Danstraining Brabant.

In 2005 she was invited to create a performance for the Dutch Queen Beatrix. Part of the presentation was Simoncini's Spanish Dance from Coppelia after Petipa. Other classical repertoire directed by her is from: Don Quixote, Coppelia, Swan Lake and Giselle, performed by her own students and young dancers attending the Inspiration Project. With the latest Project in 2007 she has been collaborating with Keith-Derrick Randolph as a rehearsal director for his piece Sigma.



Amos Ben-Tal

AMOS BEN-TAL
 
He has been dancing with one of the major companies: the Nederlands Dans Theater and as a rock musician he performed a.o. live on Dutch National Radio: 3FM. Amos Ben-Tal is definitely part of the next generation of young and new choreographers.
 
Amos was born in Israel in 1979 and completed his dance training at the National Ballet School in Toronto, Canada. For nine years he danced with the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT). As a rehearsal director he assisted Ohad Naharin's productions of Black Milk and Zina. 
He made his first choreography ‘Discontinyou’ for the NDT in 2005 during the annual Workshop. This lead to a commission to create a choreography for NDT I called 'Track'. In the same year his piece 'Celine And Amos', created for a young student, won 3rd prize at the Solo-Tanz-Theater-Festival in Stuttgart, Germany.
 
Amos left the NDT to focus on choreography and music. He created
choreographies for the Cadance Festival, KORZO Productions, the Tanz-Scene festival in Leipzig, Germany and Today’s Art Festival in The Netherlands. Regarding his passion for music, you will find him as frontman for the rock band Noblesse (vocals and guitar). 
As he finds it important to work with both professionals and students dancing just for pleasure, you will find him at Summerschool Den Haag in 2008 with a moving, fun and creative workshop.
 
You can see new work by Amos by the end of 2008 as he is creating a piece involving his band playing live with dancers. The project is called ‘We Are Not Humanity’ which is due to be premiered in November 2008. 



Csaba Kvasz
CSABA KVASZ
 
Csaba Kvasz received his education in his native Hungary at the Staatliche Ballettakademie, Budapest.
 
He danced in Germany and Budapest with the State Opera and he was a soloist with several companies. He performed repertory by Balanchine, Rudi van Dantzig, Glen Tetly, Béjart and others.
 
At present Kvasz is an international freelance balletteacher and assistent to choreographers. He has been teaching at Japan Ballet Association, Landestheater Salzburg, Hennie Jurriens Foundation Amsterdam, Danstraining Brabant Tilburg, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Tanzhaus Düsseldorf and Vereinigten Städtischen Bühnen Krefeld-Mönchengladbach.
 
In 2008 Csaba Kvasz will be teaching classical ballet and special boys classes at Summerschool Den Haag in The Netherlands.



Mabel Alter

MABEL ALTER
 
Mabel Alter took her ballettraining with Lilly Green and Sonia Gaskells Ballet Recitel.
 
She was a dancer with the Ballet van de Nederlands Opera, het Nederlands Ballet and the Nederlands Dans Theater. She danced classical and contemporary repertoire including work by choreographers such as: Rudi van Dantzig, Hans van Manen and George Balanchine.
 
Mabel Alter has been teaching at the Rotterdamse Dansacademie for many years. She founded a private balletschool in The Hague in 1970 by the name: 'Balletschool Mabel Alter'. The school - which is now owned by her daughter Mirella Simoncini - became known for the quality education in ballet-technique.
 
At present the Step by Step Basic balletclasses taught by Mabel Alter and Mirella Simoncini, are appreciated for giving such a clear explanation of classical ballet for amateurs. Which might be the reason why the classes are visited by students from other cities quite often.



Leila Kester
LEILA KESTER
 
Leila Kester is speciliased in teaching Floorbarre and Pilates to professional dancers and students. She studied classical ballet and contemporary dance at the London Studio Centre.
 
She worked as a freelance dancer in Amsterdam for several years. In 1996 she completed her education as a Vaganova teacher at the National Ballet Academy, Amsterdam and received a grant to go to New York to study Floorbarre (Zena Rommet style) and Pilates.
 
She has been teaching students at the Theatre school in Amsterdam (at the Ballet, Jazz and the Teachers department). And she is also a member of the board of the Dutch Dancer's Health Care Foundation. Most recently Kester opened her own Pilates studio in Amsterdam. 
 
As a Pilates and Floorbarre teacher, she is commited to the two major dance companies in the Netherlands: the Dutch National Ballet and The Nederlands Dans Theater. The dancers within these companies are classically trained and use Pilates and/or the floorbarre by Leila Kester to intensify their technique and strength and to recover from injuries. 



Kristen Cere
KRISTEN CERE
 
The Canadian dancer and choreographer Kristen Cere was born in Montreal, 1983. She was trained in her home country at the École supérieure de ballet contemporain.
 
After graduating she danced with Le Jeune Ballet du Québec. She later performed with Nederlands Dans Theater II, Les Ballets de la Parenthese (Marseille), Tanz Graz (Austria), and in the Netherlands with David Middendorp, Nanine Linning, Edd Shrouten and Vaclav Kunes.
 
Together with Francois Chirpaz she has been choreographing in collaboration. Creating works a.o. for: Palucca School/Germany, Festival des Arts de Saint Sauveur/Quebec, Tanz Graz/Austria, Théâtre de Verdure/Québec, Nederlands Dans Theater workshop and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens workshop.
 
This season Kristen Cere and Francois Chirpaz created new work for the KORZO Theatre at the Here We Live and Now Festival, Palucca School in Dresden and for Le Jeune Ballet du Quebec in Canada.



Ivo van Zwieten

Ivo van Zwieten received his education at Codarts/Rotterdamse Dance Academy and the Ballet Academy in Münich.
He danced as a soloist at Stadttheater Würzburg in Germany and with Ballett Mainz. He performed choreographies by Kurt Joos, Hans van Manen, Nils Christe, Samuel Wuersten, George Balanchine, Joell Schnee and others.
Among the parts he danced are: Droßelmeier, Don José, Pierrot Lunaire and Joseph in the „Josephs Legend“.
He made his first choreograpy while dancing in Würzburg. At present Ivo is teaching ballet and modern-dance in Berlin and has been working as a freelance choreographer in Mainz, Stuttgart, Berlin, Tel Aviv, Guatemala City and Edinburgh.
 
In the summer of 2008 Ivo van Zwieten will be teaching ballet and special boys classes at Summerschool Den Haag in The Netherlands.
